We are Californians for School Choice, a broad-based coalition of parents, educators, citizens, and community leaders united by a shared belief: K–12 education funding should follow the student—not the system.
Our goal is straightforward and deeply rooted in fairness and freedom. Every student in California deserves the opportunity to thrive in the learning environment that works best for them. To make that vision a reality, we’re advancing a powerful solution that puts families—not bureaucracies—in charge.
We hold firm to a principle that’s gaining traction nationwide:
Education funding belongs to the student—not the school district.
We believe that parents are best equipped to decide how their child is educated, and that state education dollars should follow each student to the school of their choice—whether public, private, or parochial—as long as it is accredited.
Under our initiative, families who opt in will have access to an Education Savings Account (ESA) funded with their child's annual share of the state’s K–12 education budget—estimated at $15,000 per student per year.
Parents can direct these funds toward tuition at an accredited public, private, or parochial school.
Families who homeschool will also be eligible, and while they may not be accredited, unused funds will accumulate.
At age 18, leftover funds can be used for college, trade school, or other qualified post-secondary education expenses.
Right now, we are deeply engaged in organizing efforts across California. Volunteers are stepping up to lead signature drives and bring awareness to their communities. We are building teams county by county, school district by school district—anywhere families gather.
We are asking everyday Californians to stand with us and become part of something historic. If you’re willing to help collect signatures, spread the word, or assist our team in any way, we welcome you.
This is a grassroots effort led by real people, not special interests.
Please note: We are a functioning political committee, and while donations are not tax-deductible, they are vital to advancing our mission.
If you’re satisfied with your public school, that’s great. Nothing changes for you.
But for the countless families across California looking for alternatives—families who feel unheard, underserved, or stuck—this initiative offers a path forward.
Now is the time to act.
Because it’s your child’s future. And the choice should be yours.
We are pursuing this change through the initiative process, proposing an amendment to the California State Constitution. Once the initiative is submitted to the Attorney General for title and summary, we will have 180 days to gather 1.5 million signatures from registered voters to qualify the initiative for the ballot.
Although our initial goal was the November 2022 election, this movement is not slowing down. We are preparing to launch whenever the time is right—and we are getting closer every day.
This initiative does not dismantle public education—it enhances the educational landscape for all by giving families meaningful choice.
Freedom to decide how your education dollars are used.
