The California School Choice Foundation, in collaboration with Californians for School Choice, has crafted a transformative initiative aimed at reshaping the future of education in our state. At the heart of this initiative is a simple but revolutionary concept—Educational Savings Accounts (ESAs). Each family, under this plan, would be able to create an ESA for their child, gaining control of the approximately $17,500 currently allocated annually per student in the state's public education system. With this funding in hand, parents would be free to choose the learning environment that best suits their child’s needs.
How It Works
With the establishment of an ESA, families can direct these education funds toward a wide range of qualified expenses, including:
- Tuition at participating private or religious schools
- Homeschooling materials and resources
- Vocational and trade programs
- College savings and preparatory programs
Unused funds roll over each year, allowing families to build a foundation for future academic and career opportunities.
This plan opens the door to educational choice not only for those seeking alternatives to public schools but also for homeschooling families, who are often overlooked in broader policy discussions.
